Our vision

At Studio 26, we are more than a yoga studio; we are a community—a community that values friendship, fitness, and a holistic approach to well-being.

Our PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy is simple: come as you are. We welcome everybody and every body.

Our Name

We are Studio 26 – because Studio 52 was already taken! Just kidding. We are named after the 26 postures of the Original Hot Yoga sequence.

Know Before You Go

1

What to know before you go

Please arrive at the studio 20 minutes before class. This is will give you time to register and receive a studio orientation. All Hot Yoga classes are drop-in so you do not have to pre-register for classes. Just show up!

2

Our Facilities

The studio has spacious locker rooms and lots of showers. We open 30 minutes before class starts. Mat and towel rentals are available. You can fill your water bottle straight from our filtered taps, or purchase Gatorade, coconut water, and fresh fruit popsicles for electrolyte re-balancing before/after class.

3

How to Prepare for Class

The room is kept at 105F (40C) and 40% humidity, so be prepared to sweat! Come to class on an empty stomach. Do not eat for 3 hours before class. If you must eat, fruit, yogurt, or a granola bar is best. Be well hydrated before class. As you practice, you will want to drink at least 3 litres of water a day.

4

What to Wear

Wear light clothing such as a sports bra and shorts. Try to avoid sweats or baggy clothing. Be comfortable!

5

What to bring

Bring a yoga mat, water bottle, and three towels (one big towel for your mat, one small towel for your hands/face, and one for a shower after if you’d like). If you forget yours, we have towels and mats for rent at the studio.

6

Yoga Etiquette

No socks or shoes in the yoga room.

No cell phones inside the yoga room.

Please do not talk in the yoga room before, during, or after. Respect the silence of your neighbours. We encourage you to talk and socialize in the lounge before and after class.

Practice only the Hot Yoga series as described by the instructor. You may practise other postures or variations before or after class.

Bring ONLY your yoga mat, towel, and water bottle into the Yoga room. No purses, gym bags, cell phones, laptops, etc.

Classes are 90 minutes and begin exactly on time.

Remember to have fun!

FAQs

We recommend you wear lightweight, comfortable athletic clothing that you can move in for all of our classes. Bring a yoga mat, towel (for your mat), towel (for your face), and a water bottle. You may also like to bring another towel + toiletries for the shower.

Not to worry! We have yoga mats (and towels) for rent at the front desk. Just ask for one when you arrive. Mats are thoroughly sanitized after each use.

Yes! We have a very large lot that we share with the surrounding businesses (a grocery store and auto shop). There is always lots of parking, and it’s completely FREE! We are also located right on the bus routes 47 & 60, as well as a few minutes’ walk from Plaza Station on the Rapid Transit BLUE line.

There are participants of all ages, all sizes and all fitness levels with an assortment of injuries to consider. The teachers will ensure that you are comfortable, work at your own pace and level and always feel welcome. Take a break whenever you want and never compare yourself to others. More experienced people tend to be in the front row and newcomers tend (not always) prefer the back row until they are familiar with the postures. It is a warm (no pun intended) and welcoming community.

This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to a yoga class. Yoga is not about how flexible you are, but about strengthening your body and spine in all directions and developing and maintaining full range of motion (ROM) of your joints. All that matters is that you do the best you can, try the right way and you will get 100 % of the benefit!

We recommend that you consult your doctor before participating in any physical activity. If your doctor has cleared you to exercise, please let your teacher know of any injuries you may have, so that they can support you with any necessary modifications throughout class.

The room is intentionally heated (~40 degrees C/104 degrees F at 40% humidity) to increase heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate to warm and oxygenate your muscles which allows you to work deeply and safely.

No matter what your level of fitness is, you will find Hot Yoga very challenging. Each posture combines flexibility, strength, and balance to work your whole body from the inside out. With persistence, patience, and dedication, you can lose inches and develop muscle tone and strength.

There are unlimited benefits to Hot Yoga. It reduces stress, increases blood circulation and improves strength and flexibility. Regular practice (at least three times a week) can reduce the symptoms of many chronic diseases (i.e. arthritis, diabetes and thyroid disorders). It also promotes relaxation.

You can wear shorts, leggings, sports bras, tank tops, and t-shirts. Since the room is heated, you want to wear something that you feel comfortable sweating in.
