Todd Miller

OWNER/Director, OHY 90, PILATES, STEP

Todd has thirty years of experience in the fitness and dance industry and was a national presenter and Teacher Trainer for YMCA Canada. After 10 years as a National competitor in gymnastics Todd began training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet where he received the Arnold Sphor scholarship to attend Les Ballet-Jazz of Montreal. Upon his return to Winnipeg, he joined Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers where he taught the Youth and Adult Jazz programs and graduated from the professional division program.

After becoming a certified fitness instructor Todd taught Hi/Lo and Step Aerobics, Dance, Conditioning and Aquafit classes for the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation department and numerous facilities throughout Winnipeg. While attending University of Manitoba, Todd taught the dance and fitness component in Human Movement Development for the Physical Education department.

Upon completing his degree Todd became the Program Director at the YM/YWCA of Winnipeg where he recruited and trained instructors and developed Instructor Training Workshops for the YMCA national program. He has toured western Canada extensively and has trained instructors from all major fitness facilities. His years of performing together with his technical dance training stimulate instructors and help them to challenge beyond their borders. Todd’s presentations are always infused with a light and relaxed atmosphere and his trademark humour.

Todd suffered a serious neck injury in a trampoline accident in 2000 which ended his teaching career for over two years. Physiotherapy and prescribed medications allowed him to return to teaching in 2003 and Todd added STOTT Pilates to his teaching repertoire. Todd reestablished himself as a strong presence in the fitness community but was still suffering from his spinal injuries until he began practicing Bikram Yoga in 2005. Medication and pain free he attended Bikram Yoga Intensive Teacher Training in 2008 and opened Studio 26 Hot Yoga in 2013.

Tania Canas

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, OHY 90

My love for Bikram yoga began in 2009 during a time in my life when I needed this yoga the most. I attended my first Bikram class at a studio in Vancouver and was instantly hooked. I had no idea then the impact this yoga would have in my life.

I admire the discipline and respect that this yoga fosters from within as well as the challenge and growth it offers each person in their own unique way. Bikram yoga gave me the ability to let go and helped me realize it is never too late to make changes. I am so grateful for the many benefits this yoga has offered my mind, body, and soul.

After many years of practice, I decided to begin my teacher training journey.  I am currently completing my teacher training with Todd Miller at Studio 26 Yoga and Wellness in conjunction with the Manitoba Fitness Council. Having the opportunity to guide you through your practice and share in your energy is a privilege that I so very much appreciate.

When I am not at the studio, I enjoy spending time with my daughter outdoors, trying new things together, or just hanging out. I also enjoy giving back to the Winnipeg community by donating my time as a volunteer and am happy to contribute.

I look forward to seeing you in the hot room!

I was dragged to my first hot yoga class in 2010…literally. I was in an extremely bad place in my life and a friend of mine, after months of begging and pleading with me to join her, finally dragged me to my first hot yoga class…and I never looked back. I always say, “yoga saved my life.”

My yoga practice gave me the tools I needed to find strength, courage, and self-love. I am able to test myself physically, mentally, and spiritually. My practice helped me break down barriers and heal scars that a life of trauma had left behind. Every practice is different and ever evolving, a challenge, a little break from the day, a moment in time where I can connect with me. Yoga centers me, grounds me, and allows me to breathe. I take what I learn on my mat and apply it to my life every day, building my business, raising my 2 amazing kids, running and weight training, and cuddling with our 2 beautiful poochies. I became an author, writing about my experiences with the goal to help others.

Continuing my yoga journey, I began my teacher training with Todd Miller at Studio 26 Yoga and Wellness in conjunction with the Manitoba Fitness Council. It is a great privilege to share my knowledge, guide you through your practice, and be a part of your ever evolving journey.

So, let’s get started!…

Hilde Gonzalez

OHY 90, Vinyasa Flow

Hilde Gonzalez was born in Mexico.  She began to dance at the age of 4 and her love and passion for dance helped her become a professional dancer. She danced with many iconic Latin Artists like Marco Antonio Solis, Thalia, Emmanuel, Shakira and Cristian Castro. She even had the privilege of dancing with the Back Street Boys for their South America Latin Tour. She then transformed into a choreographer working for some of the most important brands and TV Channels in Mexico.

Love brought Hilde to Winnipeg in 2008.  When she took her first Hot Yoga class, she never looked back.  Hilde fell in love with the practice, the union of movement and stillness, breath, meditation, and the heat is perfect for her. She decided to follow the path of yoga and became a Hatha Yoga teacher under the guidance of Master Tony Sanchez (Master and teacher of the 84 Asanas Bishnu Ghosh lineage).  Hilde thinks it is best to teach from experience and from the heart to practice asana every day, pranayama, meditation, and right thinking.

She loves to be a mom and family is her happiness in life. Her classes are full of energy and fun. She is always helpful and tries to teach each student the proper technique, so that they can feel the full benefits of their yoga journey.  Hilde welcomes everyone to her classes and hopes that you come out of class with a smile on your face.

OHY 90

I am from the prairies of central Canada. Music and dance have always been very central to my life, and I studied various types of dance in hopes of becoming a professional ballerina. After an injury led to the end my dance dream, I was reluctantly dragged to my first ever Bikram Yoga class, and I surprisingly fell instantly in love with this new approach to the body. Not only was the Yoga the only thing that made me feel the same as when I danced, but it helped heal my body.

In 2008, I placed 2nd in the Eastern Canadian Yoga Championships and was sent to the World Championships in the States. Although my dance career had ended, I was able to pursue music and toured through North America. The Yoga helped maintain my body and I loved how I could travel and find studios nearly everywhere I went. In spring 2010 I attended Bikram Teacher Training during a break in my touring. Since then I have traveled and taught around the world in places including Canada, Germany, Denmark, Turkey, and Australia.

I believe in the power of this Yoga and am blessed to be able to share it with people around the world.

TAI CHI (WORKSHOP)

Fifteen years ago, a friend asked me to take a Tai Chi class with her. At the time, I was a university student, focused on my studies with no time to think about my health or exercise. Fortunately, my friend was wiser than me and it turned out to be a great experience. I enjoyed the class and found it made me feel better physically and less stressed about my studies. Although I didn’t take any more classes with that organization, I continued to practice what I learned there.

A couple of years later, I was introduced to my current Tai Chi Master and joined a devoted group of students who have been together for many years. They shared their enthusiasm and joy for Tai Chi with me and my skill was greatly improved by the deep knowledge of Master Yu. He taught me that Tai Chi is as much an art as it is a form of exercise and martial arts. It should look good and feel good. It is beautiful, meditative and expressive. It makes me feel good mentally, physically and emotionally. I’m so happy to be able to share Tai Chi with Studio 26.
